Recharging Their Batteries

When my day is especially chaotic and it appears as though nothing valuable is being accomplished, I take a deep breath and wait.

When darkness comes to rescue me and the jumble of bedtime rituals are complete, I know the time I most look forward to is near...

And then they are asleep.

In the quiet stillness of the night I walk into each bedroom and glance at their sweet, sleeping faces laying there on their pillows, so innocent and peaceful.

And then I smile because I know that they are just recharging their batteries and tomorrow will be another crazy & chaotic (but always also some degree of wonderful) day.

"There are few things as seemingly untouched by the real world as a child asleep."
-John Irving

Nine sleeping kids! HOW SWEET AND WONDERFUL!

Did any of them wake up when you took their picture?

One of my favorite truths:

There never was a
Child so lovely but his
Mother was glad to see him asleep.

~Ralph Waldo Emerson

But I also love the moment just as they wake up, before they're fully awake. That's a sweet time, too. Especially if it's after 8:00 am. ;) And then, crazy arrives!

I woke up when you took my picture but I honestly thought I was dreaming.
Darn you.

As you see in the comments, elemenoB did. She sleepily remarked, "delete it" and went right back to sleep. I did delete it once I put it on the blog.

rebecca-
I love that quote, too. And I LOVE when they wake up happy! (not always the case with Hubba and Curly).

elemenoB-
I love you.

We all LOVE this post. WE...I mean all the girls at Sorenson. Yup. Once again, we are pulling a midnight shift and reading your blog for laughs and giggles and ooos and ahhs. This last post was an "ooo and ahh" post. So precious. I love that you still sneak in on your oldest too. Have you read, "I Love You Forever" about the Mom who sneaks into her baby's room and rocks him each night? Even when he is a grown man. I love that. OOoooo....ahhhhh.

Hi Sorenson friends!! Look, I am still awake, too. I love that you all read my blog - now you all need to start blogs so I can keep up with all of your goings-on. What do you say?

And Gina - I love "Love You Forever". I still kiss some of them on the forehead when I sneak in at night, but don't tell Coolister.

What a sweet set of pictures! I just want to scoop the baby up and kiss kiss kiss. Your two middle daughters look so much alike in those pictures.

I'm impressed only one of them woke up.

AWESOME POST!!!

This is my favorite time of the "day" too. Granted I'm up after 3am (again). I just get my second wind about the time they all get quiet.

I go in every night and make sure each child is covered - they're a bunch of wigglers. I also kiss those who had a particularly hard day or who are just too cute.

My 2 middle girls are often called "The Twins" because they look so much alike and are almost the same height now. They are actually almost 2 years apart, but it's fun having pretend twins.

mom (not mum)-
Thanks! I'm looking forward to posts from your new "post" soon!

Chelle-
That would be midnight (it was an early-to-bed day) except for Thumbelina who is a night owl. I got her at 6:00 am.

Annette-
You are too kind, donut-sharing friend.

tchn5th-
wordless (except for the word "wordless", which I don't think actually IS a word. So it's all good.)

farscaper-
There's something precious about those sleeping faces, isn't there?

elemenob, don't be embarrassed. You had funnier faces at girls camp. You're just lucky I didn't take any pictures. :P

I love this post. I am going to have to do this some evening. Of course, I don't have to take quite as many pictures :)
