Picture Day

"Mom, it's picture day!" All-a-Boy informed me this morning. "And since we don't buy school pictures, I was thinking of doing something a little... special."

I asked what he had in mind, he told me, and I thought... who am I to stifle a creative mind?

So we did this.

(And I actually think it looks pretty cool.)

And then he wanted to practice some good picture day faces, so I obliged.

He sort of reminds me of this kid:

I hope the photographer doesn't hate me.

Awesome! Maybe he'll start a new trend?

He is one handsome and funny kid, huh?

Have I ever told you that he reminds me of Jake Gyllenhaal?

Haha. Josh likes to make funny faces in his pictures. You should see his drivers license. I love the hair, by the way :)

Michelle- I would love it if every boy showed up to school like that on picture day. Can you imagine? Pure awesomeness.

Laura- He is. He keeps me laughing and keeps me on my toes. And I can see some similarities...

Amber- I'll have to ask to see his DL next time I see him. Somehow, that does not surprise me.

So, I missed posting on your "COMMENTS post" a couple days ago. You are so right! And, I need to be soooo much better about leaving comments or I can't complain about not getting any of my own :) So, now I will no longer be that creepy anonymous person reading your blog. Ha ha! I will tell you more often how much I love your posts, love your attitude, and love your creativity!

Kristin- Thanks for commenting! I've been enjoying your pictures and your blog for a while now, too. I guess we can both come out of hiding! And if you ever want to comment on an older post, go ahead. I get a notification of any comments I receive so that I never miss one. ;0)

What a cool kid. Kind of reminds me of someone else too....hmmmm??? Makes me wish I had done something "cool" with my own boys hair. Good thing there is always next year.

I'll have to show this to David. He wouldn't show his teeth when he smiled on picture day so the photographer made him go to the back of the line. Maybe we won't buy anymore school pictures either.

R&N- That would be awesome if all the boys showed up with spiky hair on picture day. My girls asked, "Is it wacky hair day?!"

GaeLynn- What is that photographer's problem? Did he think that would make David happier about showing his teeth? Maybe they are told that every child's teeth must be showing. Who knows?

Next year you should supply him with some redneck teeth.

He is a cool kid.

Jen-
You may have just started a new family tradition. That is GENIUS!

You are the most fun mom I've ever read about--may I come take some lessons?

I actually do buy school pics every year. Am I the only mom left who does? Every school year my mom bought the picture package, and I almost never liked how my picture turned out, but I'm so glad I have them now. And every spring, around my birthday, I went to JC Penney photo studio to have my b-day pics taken. She had me do that even when I was at college. So I've been brainwashed, and I can't give up the picture packages.

Do you buy a yearbook? You've got to have some sort of evidence of this picture day, when he's all grown up!

Gerb said...

Anaise- I could say the same for you!

Bec- If I bought school pictures I would be spending well over $100 for mediocre photos of my kids - and that's only the ones in school. You're right, though - it would be fun to have a copy of his school picture this year. Actually, this post is a good reminder...

Awesome! I love the third one over. I was thinking that he looked like Calvin and then I scrolled down and found that we agreed! :D

That is awesome! And he totally looks like Calvin, just better lookin'!

What a spunky kid? Just out of curiosity, what percentage of your 9 children are as outgoing and crazy as All-a-Boy is? Does he take after you, dad or both? (just curious :)

Dare I say that we had our 'class photo' today as well?

Love it - and so will all the parents, I'm sure.

Nothing could beat one year when a certain young man in my class went into the bathroom and styled his hair into a 'rooster frohawk' and emerged for his photos. He claimed that his mother sanctioned the whole ordeal...later, when she saw the photos, I thought she was going to rip his face off.

AAB asked me today, "Mr. Z, do you have any hairspray I could use?"

I told him that I didn't use hairspray.

"Gel then?"

"I don't bring gel to school with me, AAB. I use it at home."

He was amazed. "How do you get your hair to stay that way ALL day? My hair usually 'wears out' before lunch!"

"Ancient secrets, AAB. Ancient secrets..."

What an awesome kid (and mom). I have some great pictures of him hamming it up with a blow up dino at a birthday party. You have a star in the making!!

I love the multi-pic. you did. I've seen one like that of Calvin of Calvin & Hobbes. You should print THAT and frame it! Beats school pics any day!

I only buy a class pic. for $7 or $8. I do the JC Penny thing on their b-days- 3.99/sheet and I choose them. Can't beat that!

I'll bet he generates some REAL smiles (both his own and the photographer's) when he steps up to get his pic snapped. Too cute.

He looks like a certain teacher we all know and love...

(Well, maybe All a boy's hair is a little more wild)

Too funny!
